Libre was a success in sales when released. Associated with Dua Lipa´s image, every woman wanted to smell dominant and “libre” like her. But have you ever asked what are the differences between all the versions on the market? That probably happened to you, but don´t worry, we got you 😉
We built this article to explain briefly, the main aspects of every single one of the Libre´s perfumes line. We´ll explore the scent, longevity, projection, versatility, price, and a few pros and cons of each one of them. Enjoy it!
1. YSL Libre (2019)
YSL Libre is the original fragrance from all of YSL Libre perfumes. This is their second lightest version of all 5, losing just for Libre Eau de Toilette. It presents very distinct aspects of lavender and white floral.
In the next sessions, we´ll unveil the most important aspects of this fragrance and clarify the strongest points compared to the others.
scent
Libre is the cleanest feminine perfume from YSL! Their blend of floral notes creates a pleasant and inviting scent, not being invasive to anyone. It is a clean floral fragrance, and its main notes include:
- Top Notes: Mandarin Orange, Black Currant, and Lavender
- Middle Notes: Lavender and White Floral
- Base Notes: Vanilla, Musk, and Cedar
Longevity
Regarding longevity, Libre has a good performance under most women´s skin. YSL Libre can stick to your skin for more than 10 hours easily.
Projection
This is the weakest point of the fragrance. Libre´s projection was not built to be strong, but to be intimate. Its projection presents shyness, being perfect for casual and intimate moments.
Versatility
YSL Libre presents a very wide versatility of use. It can be used for casual moments, hangouts, offices, signature perfume, and formal dinners.
It´s a fragrance built for cold and cool seasons. During winter and Autumn, it can be a bit shy, reducing its projection but extending its longevity. During cool days in spring, the perfume shines. Its floral notes appear in the most laudable form, exuding freshness and sophisticance.
Price
Libre´s prices can be a bit overpriced. They are luxury fragrances from YSL, so you shouldn´t expect cheap fragrances. Unfortunately… Libre can be found for something around 85€ – 100€ for the 90ml bottle.
Pros and Cons
Here are some of the best qualities and some weakest points that are important to consider:
2. YSL Libre Intense (2020)
This is the old sister of YSL Libre released in 2020. It has the same DNA as the original one: Lavender with white floral. But now with the addition of the vanilla scent to the fragrance. This addition gives the perfume more sensuality and a stronger performance. Most reviewers even say this one is the best of all YSL Libre perfumes!
scent
Libre Intense has a more mature scent with the addition of vanilla and tonka bean to the blend of notes. But that only makes the perfume more smelling! Its main notes are:
- Top Notes: Lavender, Mandarin Orange, and Bergamot
- Middle Notes: Lavender, White Floral, and Orchid
- Base Notes: Vanilla, Tonka Bean, and Vetiver
Longevity
Libre Intense has very good longevity, with more couple of hours of performance on the skin than the original YSL Libre. Libre Intense can stick to your skin for more than 12 hours easily.
Projection
Compared to the Original YSL Libre, Libre Intense has a wider range of projection, making sure everyone around you smells the scent.
Versatility
YSL Libre Intense is a bit less versatile than the original one. It´s built to be a sensual scent perfect for date nights, formal dinners, moments with your partner, street nights, and more formal hangouts.
It can be used in the same seasons of the year as the original one but on fewer occasions, due to its intensity.
Price
Its price is very similar to the original YSL Libre. You can find the perfume for 90€ – 100€ for the 90ml bottle.
Pros and Cons
Here are some of the best qualities and some weakest points that are important to consider:
3. YSL Libre Eau de Toilette (2021)
Libre Eau de Toilette is the lightest version of all YSL Libre perfumes. It was built to be a soft and light version of the original Libre. It still has the DNA of lavender and white florals, but in this fragrance, the freshness takes the place of vanilla.
scent
YSL Libre Eau de Toilette is the cleanest one with a touch of citric fruits in its blend. This fragrance has a rich mix of notes such as:
- Top Notes: Lavender, Bergamot, and Mandarin Orange
- Middle Notes: White Floral
- Base Notes: Musk and Vanilla
Longevity
Libre Eau de Toilette has a very short longevity. This perfume can stick to your skin for around 6 hours usually. During hot days this range can extend up to 8 hours.
Projection
Libre Eau de Toilette was not crafted to be a bomb fragrance, but an intimate one. With a shy projection, this perfume projects in a very short range.
Versatility
Like YSL Libre Le Parfum, this fragrance has very limited versatility, but for warm and hot seasons. That means it´s perfect to use during summer and hot days during spring. In those days it can be used as a post-shower, signature fragrance, casual occasions, and hangouts with friends
It can also be used during cold seasons, but it won´t shine as much as it does during the hot weather.
Price
Due to its shy projection and short longevity, this is the cheapest perfume on the line. It can be found for something around 70€ – 85€ for the 90ml bottle.
Pros and Cons
Here are some of the best qualities and some weakest points that are important to consider:
4. YSL Libre Le Parfum (2022)
Libre Le Parfum is the oldest sister of all YSL Libre perfumes. It´s a more mature, sexy, and elegant fragrance. In this perfume, the DNA is reformulated to be a sensual and warm fragrance with rich notes of vanilla, lavender, and honey.
scent
YSL Libre le parfum has a different purpose than the previous 2, it was built to be warm and dominant. This fragrance has a rich blend of notes such as:
- Top Notes: Mandarin Orange, Bergamot, and Ginger
- Middle Notes: Orange Blossom and Lavender

Longevity
Libre Le Parfum has extraordinary longevity, with more hours of performance on the skin than the previous 2 perfumes. Libre Le Parfum can stick to your skin for more than 16 hours easily.
Projection
Compared to the previous Libres, YSL Libre Le Parfum has a wider range of projection, built to truly shine during cold seasons.
Versatility
One problem of YSL Libre Le Parfum it´s its versatility. This fragrance was built to shine during cold weather, being perfect for night parties, formal occasions, and romantic dinners. That makes it impossible to use during warm seasons, being restricted to winter and autumn.
Price
Due to being the second newest YSL Libre version, Libre Le Parfum can be a little bit more expensive than the others. It can be found for something around 100€ – 110€ for the 90ml bottle.
Pros and Cons
Here are some of the best qualities and some weakest points that are important to consider:
5. YSL Libre L’Absolu Platine (2023)
This is the newest and most different version of all YSL Libre perfumes. It has a different scent proposal, offering a synthetic fresh citric, and soapy fragrance. The only Libre´s DNA ingredient you can smell that is kept here is the lavender note.
scent
This is by far the most unique YSL libre´s perfume and it needs some credit for that. Besides its uniqueness, this scent may not please everyone. This fragrance has a rich blend of notes such as:
- Top Notes: Aldehydes, Bergamot, and Mandarin Orange
- Middle Notes: Lavender and Orange Blossom
- Base Notes: Vanilla
Longevity
It has a similar longevity to the original YSL Libre and can stay on your skin for almost 10 hours on warm days. That longevity can decrease during cold days down to 8 or 6 hours.
Projection
YSL Libre L’Absolu Platine has a similar projection as the original Libre, being a bit stronger. It has a moderate projection.
Versatility
YSL Libre L’Absolu has only one restriction: Summer. It´s a good fragrance to use as a signature perfume during spring, autumn, and winter. During summer the scent gets too much synthetic and annoying.
