An Honest Black Opium Review – By Yves Saint Laurent

Black Opium Review

Welcome to our Black Opium Review post! In this article, we´ll dive into this YSL fragrance details and explain briefly the most relevant topics about the perfume

Black Opium is often mentioned as one of the most searched feminine fragrances by Yves Saint Laurent. Its sweetness mixed with notes of coffee, patchouli, and vanilla make it an interesting and smelling scent for the feminine public.

This detailed Black Opium review was made to clarify some important topics about the fragrance such as scent, main notes, fragrance evolution, longevity, projection, and its suitability for different occasions.

Scent

Scent 8.1

Black Opium is often described as an “Oriental Vanilla” fragrance due to its main notes:

  • Top Notes: Pear, Orange Blossom, and Pink Pepper
  • Middle Notes: Coffee, Jasmine, and Almond
  • Base Notes: Vanilla, Patchouli, and Cashmere

This combination of notes gives this perfume a gourmand quality, with the presence of vanilla and the richness of coffee. Patchouli adds depth and complexity to the fragrance, while pear provides a touch of freshness.

Despite its Gourmand quality, Black Opium is a difficult fragrance for most women due to its uniqueness. The combination of the darkness of coffee and patchouli with the femininity of vanilla and jasmine makes it a divisive fragrance, appealing to some but not to others.

Longevity

Longevity 6.7

In terms of longevity, Black Opium has an “okay” duration for most women. It stays on the asking for about 10 hours, though this can differ from person to person.

It’s important to note that individual experiences with a fragrance’s longevity can vary. It´s prudent to personally apply the perfume to your skin to gauge its performance based on your unique chemistry.

Projection

Projection 8.6

As for projection, Black Opium demonstrates a robust presence, particularly under colder conditions. The fragrance asserts a strong projection, spreading its scent up to +1 meters of distance.

This heightened projection in cold weather contributes to the overall sensory experience, allowing the fragrance to make a distinct and lasting impression.

Versatility

Versatility 6.5

Black Opium was designed for cold weather, such as Autumn and Winter. It´s a very seductive fragrance perfect for night dates, parties, important meetings, formal dinners, and special occasions.

Notice that it´s a fragrance built for cold weather, so when its projection is intimate it becomes a cosy scent perfect for… intimate occasions 😉.

Despite being a queen fragrance for cold weather, it lacks versatility in warm weather, such as Summer and Spring. It becomes a nauseating and suffocating scent.

Price

Price 4.5

Besides Black Opium´s uniqueness, being from a big brand like Yves Saint Laurent has its consequences. The YSL fragrance it´s not cheap and it costs around 80€ – 90€ for the 30 ml bottle.

Conclusion

Overall Rating 6.9

Black Opium is a very classic and elegant fragrance. Built for women between their mid-20s and late 30s, with main notes of vanilla, coffee, patchouli, Jasmine, and Pear. Despite its popularity, Black Opium is a very difficult scent for most women due to the presence of dark notes such as patchouli and coffee.

Its uniqueness to be a cold-weather perfume makes it a perfect vanilla scent for nightlife occasions during the Winter and Autumn seasons. Therefore, if you like sweet “dark” scents out of the norm, Black Opium is a must-try for you! But if you are a fan of light perfumes with a more feminine vibe, then Black Opium will be a difficult option for you!

We give Black Opium an Overall Rating of: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (6.9/10)
